Updates from the Faculty Development and Evaluation Committee

Michelle B. Moore, PsyD, ABPP

The Faculty Development and Evaluation Committee is preparing for an active Winter and Spring! We have taken several ideas from our discussions and are collaborating with others within the School to organize and host workshops. Below are some dates to put on your calendar with registration information and details to follow by email:

  • January 17, 2025 from 1-2pm - We will host Debriefing in Clinical Education – Not Just for Simulation: Bedside Pearls. This workshop will focus on enhancing your skills to debrief after a clinical encounter and offer an opportunity to apply those skills during the session.
  • February 14, 2025 from 1-2pm - Our next Faculty Development workshop is entitled Clinical and Non-Clinical Skills Made Ridiculously Simple. Participants will learn how, when and why developing checklists can be beneficial when teaching common procedural skills. The session will provide broad concepts applicable to clinicians and basic scientists engaged in education.
  • April 11, 2025 - Rachel Walden, MS, ELS, will be hosting a series of workshops related to scholarly writing hosted by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in collaboration with the Faculty Development Committee. She was recently featured on the Faculty Factory Podcast! Her talks will cover areas such as how to improve your skills as a writing coach when helping learners and junior faculty with writing projects, preparing for journal club by learning how to critique an article and discuss with colleagues and how to hone your skills as a reviewer for a journal.
  • May 16, 2025 - Dr. Florencia Polite, a former faculty member at LSUHSC who is currently at University of Pennsylvania, will return to campus for the Daniels Lecture in the Department of Medicine. She will provide an additional workshop focused on mentorship in the morning prior to her grand rounds. Further details about her talk will be sent out in the Spring.

In this edition of The Pulse, we would like to highlight the following Tiger Bites Podcast Episodes. We invite you to "take a bite" on your commute and learn from your fellow colleagues.

  • Dr. Nick Gilpin joined us for Episode 2.10 where we discussed the changing roles of a mentor-mentee relationship as well as the importance of mentorship for career development.
  • In Season 1 Dr. Peter Debelieux joined us for Episode 1.7 to further understand how to navigate crucial conversations. He breaks the process of conflict resolution down into simple steps that anyone can follow.
