Awards and Honors

Congratulations to the following faculty and staff for achieving special distinction this quarter:

Dean’s Office
Dr. Daryl Lofaso was awarded a 2024 Chancellor’s LSU Health Excellence Award. This award recognizes 15 faculty and 15 staff members, nominated by their peers, who advance the vision and mission of the university in an exceptional way.

Family Medicine
Dr. Pam Wiseman was selected as one of only six 2025 “Women in STEM” honorees by The American Heart Association and Entergy. The Women in STEM recognition award is given to local female leaders who demonstrate exceptional commitment and make an impact across New Orleans in the STEM field.  Dr. Wiseman was highlighted at the 2025 Go Red for Women Luncheon on Friday, February 14.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Shelby MacRae (Pulmonary/Critical Care) and the NTM/bronchiectasis team in Pulmonary/Critical Care have been accepted into the COPD Foundation’s new Bronchiectasis and NTM Care Center Network (CCN). This is one of the first sites in the nation to receive this designation, reflecting the team’s leadership in advancing care for these complex lung diseases. 

Dr. John J. Hutchings (Gastroenterology) was awarded a 2024 Chancellor’s LSU Health Excellence Award, which honors those who significantly advance the vision and mission of LSU Health.

Dr. Sanjay Kamboj (Hospital Medicine) was elected President of the Medical Staff for the term Year 2025-2026 at Ochsner Medical Center, Kenner.

Dr. Catherine Hudson (Gastroenterology) was recently honored with a DREAM Award for her work over the last five years to create the first ever obesity clinic in the underserved population at UMCNO, serving as the Director of Obesity Medicine, and working in advocacy to improve access to obesity care. In addition, she served as a moderator for the Foregut and Bariatrics section of the Tulane DREAM Symposium 2024: Innovating Solutions for DEI in Digestive and Liver Diseases and gave a lecture entitled "Abundance and Scarcity: The Lack of Access to Obesity Treatments and the Role of Stigma."

Orthopaedic Surgery
Associate Professor Carter Clement, MD, MBA was awarded the Special Effort and Excellence Award by the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA). Dr. Clement, associate program director for LSU’s orthopaedic surgery residency, is an active POSNA committee member.

Dr. Amit Bhandutia received the Rooney Award, awarded to a faculty member for teaching and named after Dr. Ronald Rooney, former faculty and advisor/mentor to residents and students.

Neil Johannsen, PhD was awarded the Research Speaker Award.

Pediatrics
Dr. MasoumyNeonatology's Dr. Emily Masoumy was recently named Children's Hospital's Provider of the Quarter for her extraordinary work. 

 

 

 

Dr. Duhon
Dr. Gary Duhon (Critical Care) received the 2024 Chancellor's LSU Health Excellence Award. This award recognizes 15 faculty and 15 staff members, nominated by their peers, who advance the vision and mission of the university in an exceptional way. 

 

 

Dr. MumphreyDr. Christy Mumphrey (Neonatology) received the 2024 Chancellor's LSU Health Excellence Award. This award recognizes 15 faculty and 15 staff members, nominated by their peers, who advance the vision and mission of the university in an exceptional way. 

 

 

 

Physiology
Lisa Harrison Bernard was awarded the 2024 Chancellors award for faculty.

Erin Davis was awarded the 2024 Chancellors award for staff. Davis has played a central role in leading the department’s NIH contract to develop and test new medications for the treatment of alcohol use disorder and chronic pain.

Nicholas Gilpin was promoted to Fellow in the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP).

Psychiatry
Dr. Amanda Raines (Psychology), Gratis Faculty, was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) by President Biden and his Administration in January 2025. She was one of the nearly 400 scientists and engineers to receive this award and was recognized for demonstrating exceptional leadership early in her research career.

Radiology
Dr. Douglas Casey was selected as the 2023-24 LSU Radiology Teacher of the Year.

Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center
The Louisiana Tumor Registry received its 15th consecutive first place award from the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program in recognition of its overall data quality. The SEER Program of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is an authoritative source of information on cancer incidence and survival in the United States and currently collects and publishes cancer incidence and survival data from population-based cancer registries covering approximately 48 percent of the U.S. population. The Louisiana Tumor Registry collects and reports complete, high-quality, and timely population-based cancer data in Louisiana to support cancer research, control, and prevention.
