Dr. Demetrius Porche Named Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs
Demetrius J. Porche, DNS, PhD, APRN, PCC, FACHE, ANEF, FAANP, FAAN, Dean of the School
of Nursing, has agreed to assume the role of Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (VCAA).
Dr. Porche, the James B. and Helen A. Dunn Professor of Nursing, has served as the Dean of Nursing since 2007. As Dean, he raised the standards of excellence in nursing education and research such that the LSU School of Nursing is now consistently recognized as one of the top 10 nursing schools in the country. Dr. Porche also holds appointments in the Schools of Public Health and Graduate Studies.
Dr. Porche received his undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Nicholls State University and his Master of Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Science from LSU Health Sciences Center. He completed Family Nurse Practitioner post-graduate coursework at Concordia University Wisconsin and earned a Doctorate of Philosophy from Capella University in Organization and Management with a specialization in Leadership. Dr. Porche is certified as a Clinical Specialist in Community Health Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner, is board certified in healthcare by the American College of Healthcare Executives, was inducted as a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, National League for Nursing Academy of Nurse Educators, and the American Academy of Nursing. He is currently the Chief Editor of American Journal of Men's Health.
Dr. Porche has admirably represented LSU Health New Orleans and the nursing profession in the local, state, and national communities as a gubernatorially-appointed member of the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, and as two-term Presidents of each of the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, the American Assembly for Men in Nursing, and the Southern Nursing Research Society. He served on the national Governing Council of the American Public Health Association, as Chair of its Public Health Nursing Section Development Committee, and as members of the Research Committee of the Association of Community Health Nurse Educators, Education Committee of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Doctoral Conference Planning Committee of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. He most recently served on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Board of Governors as Member at Large and Chair of the Implementation Science and Synthesis Network of the Americas. Dr. Porche currently chairs the Louisiana Health Works Commission and the SEC Nursing Deans Organization.
Dr. Porche previously served as interim VCAA and now returns to that role permanently to lead the academic enterprise and implementation of the goals in the new strategic plan. Dr. Porche will continue to serve as Dean of the School of Nursing.
