Local Students Celebrate DNA Day with LSU Health

DNA DayNational DNA Day, celebrated annually on April 25th, commemorates the successful completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003 and the discovery of DNA's double helix in 1953.

The goal of National DNA Day is to offer students, teachers and the public an opportunity to learn about and celebrate the latest advances in genomic research and explore how those advances impact their lives.

LSU medical, graduate, and nursing school trainees helped 75 Martin Behrman Middle School eighth-grade students celebrate the day by isolating DNA from strawberries, performing gel electrophoresis, learning about cancer prevention, and playing genetics-related games.
