Located in the heart of downtown New Orleans, our school was founded in 1931 with a dual mission of training outstanding doctors who are committed to care for the underserved, and providing excellent healthcare for the people of Louisiana.
Mission
The mission of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine New Orleans is to serve state and regional communities through excellence in teaching the next generation of physicians and scientists, advancing biomedical knowledge, and providing skilled and compassionate clinical care to all.
Departments & Centers
With twenty-three Departments and four Centers of Excellence, the School of Medicine (SOM) is the largest school within LSU Health New Orleans. Our faculty and learners contribute to exciting advances in medical science in both the laboratory and the clinic.
