The Art of Medicine! Returns February 7

The Student Interest Group for Music and the Arts’ (SIGMA) visual art exhibition The Art of Medicine! is returning after a years-long hiatus on February 7, 2025, at 4 pm in the CALS Atrium.

The exhibition provides an opportunity to showcase the creative talent of medical school students, faculty and staff.

Student Jonathan Legier was inspired to coordinate the event after taking the Humanities in Medicine course. The elective culminates with an original project that reflects on the theme of the intersection of medicine and art. Legier and SIGMA Vice President Joe Starns have been excited to share the joys of art with the school by reestablishing the LSU School of Medicine art show.

“Our community has an abundance of talented individuals who use their creativity in countless forms. Art connects communities, spreads joy and provokes thought. We hope this event encourages the continued pursuit of your other interests and displays the duality of our community,” Legier said.

SIGMA is currently accepting submissions through January 10, 2025 from all medical school students, faculty, and staff to participate in the exhibition. The student group welcomes all paintings, photography, poetry, drawings, sculptures, or any other form of creative visual expression. All are welcome to attend the show on February 7, 2025.

“We are hoping to continue spreading the word to make this event as impactful as possible. We want to create a space where creativity can continue to be celebrated annually,” Legier said.

Legier said that a maximum of three submissions per artist are allowed and that artwork showing disrespect toward other people or promoting hate messages will not be accepted. For additional information, email either Jonathan Legier (jlegie@lsuhsc.edu) or Joe Starns (mstarn@lsuhsc.edu).
