Faculty Mentoring and Faculty Development and Evaluation Committee Updates
Mentoring Committee
The School of Medicine Junior Faculty Guidance and Mentoring Committee has a new title thanks to the support of Drs. Stephanie Taylor and Richard DiCarlo. The committee will now be known as simply the "Mentoring Committee" to allow for expansion to support medicine faculty at all stages of career development. The committee continues to provide resources and opportunities for formal and informal mentoring.
Stay tuned for registration details about the next Speed Mentoring Event planned for March 20 from noon until 1 p.m. over Zoom. This event offers an opportunity for faculty to connect in small groups around topics such as building a research portfolio, developing a curriculum, interest in administration and educational leadership.
Anyone interested in formal mentorship for professional development is invited to complete the brief online application to be paired with mentors in their individualized areas of interest.
Faculty Development and Evaluation Committee
The Committee would like to spotlight several recent episodes included in Season 2 of the Tiger Bites Podcast.
- Dr. Robin English joined us for Episode 2.2 to explain how to use effective questioning in the classroom, during rounds or in small group sessions to help learners master concepts and material in a safe yet challenging learning environment.
- Dr. Steve Nelson joined us for Episode 2.1 where he shares his wisdom and expertise about how to build a successful research career. Whether you are a basic scientist or clinician, Nelson’s experience throughout his career will provide insight into potential next steps as well as learning about resources available on the LSUHSC campus.
- Drs. Jaimy Alleyn and LaNasha Tanner joined us for Episode 2.9 to share what inspires and motivates them to serve as clerkship directors.
The Committee is currently planning a Series of Interactive Teaching Workshops for Spring 2024. Topics will include:
- How to Create Effective Learning Objectives with Dr. Sonya Van Nuland, May 22
- Effective Questioning with Dr. Robin English, May 30th
- Effective Feedback with Dr. Randy Sorge, June 4th
Each interactive workshop will occur over Zoom from noon - 1 and offer the opportunity for small group discussion and applied practice. Details about how to register will be sent out in March.
