SOM Represented at AAMC Mid-Career Women Faculty Leadership Seminar
Three faculty with leadership roles in the School of Medicine recently attended the AAMC Mid-Career Women Faculty Leadership Seminar held in Atlanta, Georgia over a three-day period.
Ritu Bhalla, MD, Residency Program Director, Pathology; Amy Creel, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, and Stacey L. Holman, MD, Residency Program Director, Obstetrics & Gynecology attended the seminar, which is designed to provide mid-career women faculty with the knowledge and skills necessary to support continued progress along the path to leadership in academic medicine and science. The seminar covers organizational leadership topics and career advancing strategies that are essential for effective leaders.
Drs. Bhalla, Creel and Holman noted that the LSU School of Medicine supports women faculty who are in leadership roles at the Associate Professor level to attend and explore these areas for advancement.
“The Dean's office is supportive of women in medicine, and we appreciated this opportunity to learn and to represent LSU SOM,” said Holman.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to network, build leadership skills, and contemplate our next steps in the journey of academic medicine,” Bhalla said.
Creel expressed gratitude to school administration for “supporting the development of women educators and leaders within our medical school and hospitals.”
The women agree that they hope to “pay it forward” by bringing back the lessons they learned and continuing to support and mentor others.
Information on next year’s seminar, which will be held December 2-5, 2024 in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, can be found on the website.
