Mentorship Opportunities Offered by Junior Faculty Guidance and Mentoring Committee

image of speed mentoring eventThe SOM Junior Faculty Guidance and Mentoring Committee aims to focus on the career development of junior faculty by supporting their academic success and advancement. The committee created the Mentoring Program with multiple strategies to meet this goal.

The Mentoring Program for Junior Faculty matches two or three mentors with expertise complementary to the needs of a junior mentee. The formal mentoring relationship lasts for one year, with flexibility in meeting frequency and structure. The mentors submit a report at the end of the mentoring year to the department to assist with the departmental annual review process.

Applications for the mentoring program for both clinical and basic sciences can be found on the website. Faculty who are interested in participating in the mentoring program as either a mentor or a mentee may also contact Dr. Amy Creel or Dr. Michelle Moore, co-chairs of the Mentoring Committee, for more information.

In addition to the formal mentoring program, the Committee held a successful in-person speed mentoring event on April 19th that was well received. The Committee hopes to offer more opportunities to connect mentors with mentees in the future as well.
