She also founded the student-run group, Women’s Health Research Consortium, to facilitate research in women’s health. She has been described as a fierce advocate for her patients, mentees, and colleagues who inspires all those around her.
Dr. Jernigan is also an Associate Professor of Gynecologic Oncology at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine and the Director of Gynecologic Oncology at University Medical Center in New Orleans. She serves on the scientific advisory board of CAGLA (Cancer Advocacy Group of Louisiana). She teaches and has mentored LSU and Tulane students and residents.
Dr. Jernigan initiated the first ovarian cancer hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy program (HIPEC) in Louisiana. She has worked closely with her partners and the LSU Health-LCMC Cancer Center to build the most robust gynecologic cancer trials menu in the state, and her group is lead enrolling sites for several pivotal clinical cancer trials. She is passionate about bringing the most cutting-edge treatments and exciting science to the patients in the region and ensuring that the treatments of tomorrow are reflective of and serve the women cared for.
The Medical Association of Southeast Louisiana (MASELA) was founded in 2020 by the Jefferson and Orleans Parish Medical Societies to be a unified, more responsive organization to serve physicians in the region.
