The Gold Humanism Honor Society congratulated the following students who were nominated and selected by their peers for Students of the Spring 2024 Semester. These students were selected based on their interactions with peers, patients, and the community and for embodying the GHHS pillars of respect, integrity, service, and empathy.

Genetics
Brionna King, a second year medical and honor research program student in Dr. Giulia Monticone's
lab, was recently awarded the AΩA 2024 Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship
to support her research. King won the second prize for best presentation at Louisiana
ACP 2024 Annual Resident Student Meeting in New Orleans. She was also awarded the
AAI Minority Travel award and presented her research at the AAI annual meeting IMMUNOLOGY

Pediatrics
The department recently held Pediatric Research Day. Student Nicholas Christakis won Best Oral Presentation for "Determination of Glucose-Independent Racial Disparity
in HbA1c for Youth with Type 1 Diabetes in the Era of Continuous Glucose Monitoring".
Best Poster Presentation by a Student was awarded to Sloane Clay for "3DHX 16-Associated Neuromuscular Oculoauditory Syndrome: A Novel Case".
Caroline Lawless, MD, received the Pediatric Alumni Award, presented to the senior medical student for outstanding interest and performance in pediatrics.
