School of Graduate Studies Holds Retreat for MD/PhD Students
The School of Graduate Studies’ MD/PhD program hosted their 2nd annual MD/PhD Retreat in June. The MD/PhD Retreat serves as an invaluable platform for aspiring physician scientists to come together, share ideas, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
The day-long retreat included professional team building, a virtual research poster session, hobby talks, clinical research and program director panels, and keynote speaker Dr. Jason Schwartz.
Dr. Schwartz is an alumnus of the LSUHSC MD/PhD program and is currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Division of Hematology/Oncology) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The Clinical Research Panel included Drs. Rahn Bailey (Psychiatry), Tabitha Quebedeaux (Maternal-Fetal Medicine), Jessica Rivera (Orthopedic Surgery), and Alison Smith (Trauma Surgery).
The Program Director Panel consisted of Drs. Jeffrey Carter (Burn Surgery), Chelsey Sandlin (Pediatrics), Brian Copeland (Neurology), and Jessica Zagory (Pediatric Surgery).
The retreat closed with a networking hour hosted by the MD/PhD Planning committee: Dr. Donnell White III, Dr. Jake Doiron, Taylor Fitzpatrick-Schmidt, Stephanie Lee, Nicholas Harris, Patricia Mensah, and Katherine Copenhaver.
