Office of Diversity and Community Engagement Holds STEM Medicine
LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine – Office of Diversity and Community Engagement
(ODCE) held STEM Medicine on Saturday morning, October 28. Staff hosted more than
20 STEM NOLA fellow students at this event. Participants had the opportunity to experience
technology used in the Learning Center to train future healthcare professionals. They
learned the parts of patient assessment using low and high-fidelity patient simulators.
They also worked with orthopedic faculty and residents to learn how to repair orthopedic
injuries. The STEM Medicine event offered the opportunity for the STEM fellows to
work alongside medical students, residents, and faculty to learn about patient care.
The event was coordinated by Ms. Geri Davis, Community Outreach Coordinator for the
ODCE and assisted by Dr. Daryl Lofaso, Office of Medical Education – Learning Center.
