IPECP Team Wins International Award
The LSU Health Sciences Center Interprofessional Education and Clinical Practice team
was awarded the Interprofessional.Global Association’s prestigious Interprofessional.Global
Award.
The IPECP team included Director Tina Gunaldo, TEAM UPTM Specialist Tate Roussel, and Faculty Council members representing each of the six
schools: Heather Allen; Colette Baudoin; Michael Dicharry; Scott Edwards; Daniel Held;
and Susanne Straif-Bourgeois. This team supports the development, implementation,
and assessment of the institution’s required two-year longitudinal curriculum known
as Team Up: Commit to Compassion, Communication, Collaboration® (TEAM UPTM).
The award was presented at the All Together Better Health (ATBH) Conference held earlier
this year in Qatar and recognizes and celebrates individuals and teams that exemplify
the development of conceptual, empirical and theoretical knowledge to inform the design
and implementation of collaborative activities within interprofessional education,
collaboration, teamwork, patient safety, or policy.
According to the announcement, the recognition “is a testament to the dedication,
expertise, and unwavering commitment you and your team have demonstrated.”
Dr. Gunaldo said, “What makes this recognition special from an interprofessional perspective
is that the recognition extends beyond the United States. Of the 11 international
regional networks, there are institutions in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Nordic
Network of Europe that have been engaged in IPE for longer than LSUHSC, and there
were strong applications that Interprofessional.Global considered. We could not ask
for better external team members as well. The support from a local health partner
and a presentation judge from London Health Sciences Centre demonstrated the value
of reaching beyond our own institution to engage in this collaborative work, helping
to bridge the education-to-practice gap."
