Dr. Angela Johnson Voted Chair-Elect of ACP Board of Governors

Angela Johnson, MD, Professor of Clinical Medicine, Section Chief of Internal Medicine at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine’s Baton Rouge campus, has been elected Chair-Elect of the American College of Physicians (ACP) Board of Governors.
According to the ACP, the Board of Governors is an advisory board to the Board of Regents, the College's policy-making body. The Board comprises popularly elected Governors who implement national projects and initiatives at the chapter level and represent member concerns at the national level. ACP is the largest medical specialty organization in the United States, with members in more than 145 countries worldwide. Its 160,000 members include internal medicine physicians, related subspecialists, and medical students.
Dr. Johnson also serves as Associate Program Director for the LSU Health New Orleans Internal Medicine Residency in Baton Rouge. She earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Louisiana State University and her medical degree from LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine. She is currently Governor of the Louisiana Chapter of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Johnson completed her residency at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine’s Baton Rouge Internal Medicine Residency Program, where she also served as a chief resident.
Her clinical responsibilities include resident and medical student education through direct supervision of inpatient and outpatient care and the presentation of various lectures and conferences. In addition to her clinical activities, she serves as the Ambulatory Clinic Director for the primary care and medicine subspecialty clinics for LSU Health at Our Lady of the Lake and on numerous hospital committees and workgroups. She also plays an active role in state and regional natural disaster medical response efforts. Her areas of research interest include heart failure quality improvement, patient education and resident QI/patient safety engagement. Dr. Johnson is active in the American College of Physicians, both at the state and national level, and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
