GME Updates
The Office of Graduate Medical Education has hosted many programs this past quarter, all aimed at supporting the interns, residents, fellows, and training programs of the LSU School of Medicine - New Orleans and providing a smooth transition from medical school to residency and fellowship training.
Onboarding Day 2023
The Graduate Medical Education Office hosted New Orleans-based incoming House Officers
for the 23-24 academic year. In collaboration with the HRM teams, Campus Assistance
Program, Research Library, and Campus Federal Credit Union, the GME office successfully
onboarded over 200 house officers over a two-day period. More than 270 house officers
began their residency and fellowship programs on July 1 and the GME office was excited
to welcome them and aid them as they started their exciting training programs.
SMETC-LA Sim Center Tour
The LSU learning center had the privilege of hosting the Simulation Medical Training
and Education Council of Louisiana (SMETC-LA) recently. The council received a tour
of the School of Medicine Simulation Center and the new School of Nursing Simulation
Center.
New Program Directors Orientation
The GME Office hosted an orientation for new Program Directors and Assistant Program
Directors on June 22, 2023, with 13 in attendance via both in-person and virtual.
Dr. Rebecca Frey presented the ACGME Program Requirements, and they spent the morning
learning how these pertained to their specific specialty program. Resident milestones,
scholarly activity, continued accreditation, letters of agreement, work hours, and
online faculty development are just a few of the agenda items discussed.
