New NIH Data Management and Sharing Plan Requirements
Sharon Duffy, MLIS, Research Services Librarian, LSUHSC-New Orleans Library
As many of you know, on January 25, 2023, the new NIH data management and sharing plan requirements went into effect. If you were unaware or have forgotten, these new changes affect all NIH-funded research regardless of the amount awarded and will impact all new NIH applications going forward.
The library has been preparing for this change and has resources available to assist researchers with meeting these new requirements. David Trillo, MSLS, Scholarly Communication Librarian, and Sharon Duffy, MLIS, Research Services Librarian, have earned Data Services Specialization certifications through the MLA (Medical Library Association) and are available to provide data services to all LSUHSC researchers. In addition, a new LibGuide has been created on the library webpage with helpful information about how to meet the new requirements. It can be found at libguides.lsuhsc.edu/data.
Additionally, on February 16, the IT Office Hours session was presented by our Data Service Librarians. They explained the new NIH policy, presented elements of Data Management Plans, demonstrated how to use tools to create a plan, and offered resources to assist researchers. Please reach out to our librarians with any questions about the new NIH data requirements.
