OIP Hosts BIO on the BAYOU
LSU Health’s Office of Innovation and Partnerships recently teamed up with Tulane’s School of Medicine and new co-host Ole Miss to host the two-day long BIO on the BAYOU event. More than 200 individuals attended the event, held for the first time since 2019.
This year, institutions from Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Puerto Rico were invited to bring two investigators each to give 10-minute overviews of their research. Investigators from the following schools highlighted their research:
- LSU Health New Orleans (Jeffrey Erickson and Hamid Boulares)
- LSU Health Shreveport
- Tulane
- University of New Orleans
- Xavier University
- Jackson State University
- University of Mississippi
- University of Mississippi Medical Center
- University of Southern Mississippi
- University of Kentucky
- University of Louisville
In addition to the research overviews, five expert panels were held:
- Innovating with the Federal Government: speakers from NCATS, NCI – SBIR Center, and NCI – Tech Transfer
- Conversations with Corporate Colleagues Part I: speakers from Merck, Cyclica, and a corporate consultant
- Conversation with Investors: speakers from General Inception, Xontogeny, and KdT Ventures
- Strategy and Creative Thinking in Biotech: speakers from three biotech consultants as well as a representative from the federal government’s MITRE program
- Conversations with Corporate Colleagues Part II: speakers from Elanco, Boehringer Ingelheim, and NKILT Therapeutics
Also new this year was the deployment of formal partnering software, partneringONE,
from the EBD Group. This software powers meetings at BIO Europe, Meeting on the Mesa,
Biotech Showcase, and many others. This new feature was a success, with over 65 formal
business meetings scheduled between attendees of BIO on the BAYOU in addition to the
many more informal chats during networking breaks and receptions. Ultimately, in addition
to the insights attendees gain from the core programming, meetings held between innovators
or startup company entrepreneurs and industry and investor partners help build collaborative
relationships.
Don Davis, host of the very successful Life Science Success podcast, livestreamed
from the event.
The event will be held again on October 3 and 4, 2023.
