Dr. Brian Lee Announces Upcoming Retirement
Dr. Brian Lee, Department Head and Program Director for Dermatology, recently announced his plan to retire in May 2023.
“Dr. Lee stepped in to serve as head of the department in 2014 under difficult circumstances, and we are very grateful for his nine years of service in that role,” said Dr. Richard DiCarlo, Interim Dean.
Dr. Lee graduated from LSUHSC-New Orleans School of Medicine in 1985, completed an internship in internal medicine in Memphis, and returned to New Orleans to complete a residency in dermatology at LSU. He served as Chief Resident before joining the faculty in 1989.
In 2002, he was appointed as Residency Program Director and has continued to hold
that position. Under his leadership, the residency program grew to one of the larger
programs in the nation, maintained a 100% board passage rate, and always received
excellent scores in reaccreditation reviews.
Dr. Lee has served in many roles and received many accolades in his 33 years on the
faculty. He was Chief of Dermatology at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Affairs Hospital,
and has served as a course director and advisor to medical students for more than
20 years. Dr. Lee has given numerous invited presentations nationally, is frequently
recognized as a top dermatologist in New Orleans, and has been elected to the Alpha
Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society.
“We are very thankful for his numerous contributions to education, the department, the School of Medicine, to our patients and our community,” Dr. DiCarlo said.
