Ophthalmology:
Mehreen Adhi, MD won best Fellows-in-Training Grand Rounds presentation for American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) in January.
Our PGY4 2021 graduates placed for the following fellowships:

- Dr. Maria Fernandez: Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute/University of Miami

Pathology:
Christopher Girardo and Hina Khokhar have been announced as Chief Residents for 2021.
Pediatrics:
Senior Fellow Dr. Sanchitha Guruchandrasekar's abstract titled “Hughes-Stovin Syndrome with Cardiac Mass - A Case Report” has been accepted for a virtual poster presentation at Cardiology 2021: 24th Annual Update on Pediatric and Congenital Cardiovascular Disease.
Children's Hospital Chief Medical Education Officer Dr. Bonnie Desselle and CHNOLA's Office of Medical Education presented the Excellent Team Player/Outstanding Resident Award to PGY-2 Resident Heather Valdin. The award recognizes residents who go above and beyond. Heather performs work not expected of her, provides support to her fellow residents, and advocates for patients and their families, all while displaying humility and sincerity. (picture left)

Fellowship programs matches include:
- Allergy/Immunology will welcome Dexter Matrana from LSU Internal Medicine Residency Program in July.
- Cardiology matched Kanya Singhapakdi from the University of South Alabama along with Wesam Sourour of the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
- Neonatology matched Jeremy Lawson from San Antonio Uniform Services Health Education Consortium and Kelly Ordemann from Our Lady of the Lake Pediatric Residency Program.
- The Hospitalist program will welcome their second fellow, John Strand of Stony Brook Children's Hospital.
- Hematology/Oncology matched Christian Nieves- Rivera from San Juan City Hospital Pediatric Residency Program.
- Gastroenterology will have Holly Breeden from the University of Florida Pediatric Residency Program join them in July.
Pediatric-resident founded community health organization Healthy Tigers held a holiday book drive to benefit the Kids First Tigercare Clinic. Kids First Tigercare Clinic is the resident-run clinic open to patients of all ages and backgrounds. The residents were able to stock the clinic shelves with more than 700 books for all reading levels.
Dr. Nikita Lalchandani led the holiday book drive for Tigercare. She and other pediatric residents display some of the new books for the clinic.
