Interprofessional Health Equity Alliance, a New Student-Led Initiative
Mirandi Li and Rhia Reed
The Interprofessional Health Equity Alliance (IHEA) is a student-led initiative founded by student co-directors, Mirandy Li (MD/PhD) and Rhia Reed (MOT). IHEA was created to unify the efforts of students, faculty, staff, and alumni across all schools within Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) who are committed to making healthcare a more equitable place. The mission of IHEA is to advocate for equity in education, the scholastic community, and within various LSUHSC health practices. As an alliance, IHEA works toward a collection of evolving goals for justice as they relate to the culture of the LSUHSC community.
IHEA has held multiple meetings attended by students, faculty, staff, and alumni. During the meetings, attendees agreed on goals related to interprofessional engagement, education, campus climate, communications, and information. This information was later presented to the newly appointed Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion, Dr. Timothy J. Fair, in January. Future goals include working to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts in recruitment, admissions, and hiring. In an effort to engage with all DEI groups across the LSUHSC campus, IHEA asks that your group complete the form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVNjalCAqj3RPdVbv0ygKRll_NKlAYcYV3ZnqWt_CPn3aJIQ/viewform?usp=sf_link.
