Aesculapian Society Update

Saman Kamal
Class of 2021, LSUHSC School of Medicine
President, Aesculapian Society

It has been a busy winter for the Aesculapian Society! We held our fall Course Evaluation Committee meeting virtually in November, where students and faculty met to discuss L1 and L2 Spring 2020 courses, the L3 clerkships, and Critical Concepts, taught in the L4 year. We continue to be impressed with our faculty's dedication to teaching through this pandemic and adept transformation of in-classroom material to the virtual format. We also have elected six new L1 representatives to the Society and are excited to officially welcome the following students:

  • Hanna Almoaswes
  • Ashley Clement
  • Benji Creel
  • Eden Gallegos
  • Mitch Melito
  • Harrison Millar

They have already displayed clear dedication to serving their classmates and excitement to get to work on their courses. In addition, we sent out the second edition of our Aesculapian Snapshot, a bulletin which highlights key points from our reports, covering Spring 2020 pre-clinical courses, all L3 clerkships, and the required L4 course, Critical Concepts. These brief summaries showcase our Aesculapian representatives' hard, meticulous, and data-driven work on improving courses, both in real-time for their classmates and for future cohorts.

While we have missed being together as a Society and meeting with faculty in-person, I am incredibly proud of the resilience and commitment to improving medical education displayed by the Aesculapian representatives this year. They have continued to represent their classmates with grace and professionalism, and I could not be more honored to lead them
