The Editor's Pen
Denise Flock-Williams
A lot of change and disruption has happened since our last edition of The Pulse, which
was published just three months ago. While we are still in the very early phases of
all the impacts that COVID-19 has unleashed and has yet to unleash, enough time has
passed to witness the extraordinary response of the students, staff, residents, fellows
and faculty of the LSU School of Medicine.
In this issue, we have divided our top stories into three categories: those that explore
the school's response, those that focus on the campus-wide response, and those that
highlight the other important work that still continues but is not directly related
to COVID-19.
Drs. Nelson and DiCarlo have dedicated this issue to celebrate the frontline workers
battling this virus by working long hours to provide the best treatments possible
to their patients. They asked you to share photos and you delivered! Take a look at
the photographs that came in under Dean's Corner. Please click here to see a message from Dr. Nelson and a special 25-page photographic tribute to our
frontline heroes.
I extend my gratitude, as always, to all those who make this publication possible:
every story represents a contribution of someone's valuable time to share their story.
This is truly a team effort - Darlene Guillot takes a multitude of documents and transforms
them into the web-based newsletter you are reading, and Dr. Judy Crabtree serves as
the best assistant editor anyone could hope to have by their side. One of our MVPs
is always deep behind the scenes: Todd LaGrange, IT and tech support extraordinaire.
He has taken emergency calls after hours from me, and answered dozens of questions
related to the technical components of a web-based newsletter. To everyone, my sincere
thanks and gratitude!
