Dr. John England Elected to Lead AUPN

John England, MD, FAAN, Professor and Chair of Neurology at LSU Health New Orleans
School of Medicine, has been elected President-Elect of the Association of University
Professors of Neurology (AUPN). His two-year term begins in July. He will then serve
as President from July 2024 - June 2026.
The AUPN “serves as a forum for the Chairs of Departments or Divisions of Neurology in accredited medical schools in the United States and Canada to discuss academic interests and challenges. The AUPN supports department chairs through its educational offerings that are geared toward the leaders in Neurology Departments, including program directors and clerkship directors.”
Dr. England is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, a fellow of the American Neurological Association, an elected Honorary Member of the French Society of Neurology, and a member of the Peripheral Nerve Society and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
England served as chairman of the Polyneuropathy Task Force of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He was Chair of the Guidelines Development Committee of the American Academy of Neurology from 2009-2013. He is a past-President of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine as well as the American Academy of Clinical Neurophysiology. In 2016, he received the Distinguished Physician Award from the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He is a past Chair of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM).
He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Neurological Sciences, the official journal of the World Federation of Neurology, and is also Editor-in-Chief of the Encyclopedia of the Neurological Sciences. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of World Neurology and eNeurologicalSci. He is the Chair of the Publications and Communications Committee for the World Federation of Neurology and the President of the Applied Research Group on Neuromuscular Diseases for the World Federation of Neurology. In addition, he has served as an editorial consultant to many other peer-reviewed journals, including Muscle and Nerve, Annals of Neurology, European Journal of Neurology, The Lancet Neurology, and Neurology.
England's major clinical interests include neuromuscular diseases (especially peripheral neuropathy) and electrophysiology. His major research interests are the pathophysiology of peripheral neuropathies and sodium channel modulation in experimental models of peripheral neuropathy. He has authored or coauthored more than 300 publications.
