It was such a joy to put this edition of The Pulse together. I was given the best problem to have as an editor: too much good news to share!
Many events have returned to an in-person format, including Camp Tiger, an amazing experience for both the campers and the counselors. For photos that will brighten your day, go to Camp Tiger Photos.
LSU School of Medicine faculty and staff are constantly addressing the most pressing needs of society, from providing free resources to the community to help children heal from trauma to new treatments for COVID, cancers, blinding eye diseases, and the promise of a new pain-relieving drug without the risk of addiction or toxicity. The Precision Medicine Lab continues to be at the forefront of identifying new COVID strains as they impact our state.
Finally, our new Unsung Heroes feature celebrates Kelly Allerton. Kelly has consistently supplied The Pulse with great content and photos from the Department of Pediatrics, so I was thrilled that she was chosen for our inaugural Unsung Heroes feature.
It is such a privilege to share these stories that demonstrate just a few of the contributions
the School of Medicine has made to advancing science and health. I depend on each
of you for content every quarter, so please keep sharing with me at dflock@lsuhsc.edu anytime with an idea for a story, information or pictures that we can share. As always,
I extend additional thanks to Dr. Judy Crabtree, Todd LaGrange, and Dr. Stephanie
Taylor who all work behind the scenes to get each issue published.
