Aesculapian Society Update

>

Taylor St. Martin (L4), President

2021-2022 was an extremely successful year for the Aesculapian Society. In the spirit of amicable exchange, self-improvement, and innovation, we, as a Society, actively solicited faculty opinion to improve our working relationship. We heard their call for more specific feedback, and in response, overhauled our real-time feedback modality to create a new survey tool that enhances feedback quality by removing a responder's burden to provide the key data points of interest to the faculty.

Innovation in the Aesculapian Society continued with advances in our report writing process. One of our survey coordinators, Conrad Leonik, created a code for automating charts which removes a significant burden from our report writers. Society history was made with a monumental bylaws amendment, unanimously accepted, to create a new executive board position, the Sergeant-at-Arms, tasked with organizing our online presence, ensuring the longevity of previously made advances, and acting as chief technology officer as we continue to embrace future innovations to come.

Lastly, we selected a well-rounded new executive board and outstanding clinical faculty advisor as seen below:

  • President: Taylor St. Martin (L4)
  • Vice President: Tabitha Kearns (L3)
  • Secretary: Molly Litton (L3)
  • Treasurer: Mary Peltier (L3)
  • Course Evaluation Coordinator: Tanner Reed (L3)
  • Sergeant-at-Arms: Jeffery Anderson (L3)
  • Survey Coordinators: Michael McMahon (L4), Conrad Leonik (L3), Megan Waguespack (L3), Alison Schafer (L2)
  • L4 Class Coordinator: Isabella Hermantin
  • L4 Editors: Jackson Mierl, Katherine Adler
  • L3 Class Coordinator: Yasmeen Kawjii
  • L3 Editors: Ashley Clement, Mitchell Melito
  • L2 Class Coordinator: Meva Beganovic
  • L2 Editor: V. Claire Saux
  • Clinical Faculty Advisor: Dr. Matthew Foy

The 2022-2023 school year is off to a busy start for the Society. In August, we inducted six new members of the Class of 2025 into the Society:

  • Cole Rogers
  • Anne Lindberg
  • Ty Theriot
  • Rebecca Maiski
  • Prashun Chanda
  • Jonathan Legier

We will be electing eight new L1 members in September to join the Society and represent the Class of 2026. In an effort to continue to advance our utility to the faculty, we have been working to update both our surveys and real time feedback forms to receive more valuable data. In addition, our VP, Tabitha Kearns, has taken initiative in developing a post-STEP 1 feedback survey to validate and further improve pre-clinical curriculum. Our members have displayed incredible enthusiasm for curriculum improvement and commitment to advocating respectfully for their classmates over the past year and have hit the ground running with new ideas this semester. We look forward to the year to come!
