SAINT Now Available in New Orleans, One of Only Nine Sites Worldwide

SAINT treatmentBecause of the persistence of Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry Lochlann McGee, and with the support of Department Head Dr. Erich Conrad and LCMC staff, New Orleans now has a new SAINT.

Only nine sites worldwide offer this cutting-edge procedure at this time.

The first patient in Louisiana was treated at the end of May with Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy (SAINT), an advanced form of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). SAINT uses functional MRI imaging to identify a personalized treatment target in the brain. This individualized approach is further enhanced by neuro-navigation technology, which ensures that stimulation is delivered with precision to the intended area.

With the addition of the SAINT protocol, UMC can now offer the full spectrum of evidence-based treatments for major depressive disorder. Although SAINT is currently a limited resource, the goal is to expand access to this innovative therapy, which has shown the potential to deliver rapid and significant symptom relief, often within just one week.
