MD Program Students Interested in Transferring to LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans

The LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans ensures that any student accepted for transfer or admission with advanced standing demonstrates academic achievements, completion of relevant prior coursework, and other relevant characteristics comparable to those of the medical students in the class that he or she would join.  The medical school ensures that resources are adequate to support any transfer students without diminishing the resources for existing students.

Only students who meet the following eligibility criteria will be considered for transfer:

  1. Only those students who are in good standing at LCME-accredited medical schools in the United States will be considered.
  2. Louisiana residents will be given first priority.
  3. The prospective student must meet the same qualifications and requirements needed for admission to the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans.
  4. Transfer students will only be considered if there is sufficient capacity in the class the applicant is seeking to enter. Students may only be considered for transfer into the second or third year of the curriculum. All students must have passed USMLE Step 1 before they can be accepted into the clerkship phase.
  5. The applicant must be able to meet all requirements for graduation with the class that the student is entering.
  6. Only students with extraordinary personal or educational circumstances will be considered for transfer.

The deadline for filing a completed application (including all required material) is February 15th of the calendar year the student wishes to enter the School of Medicine.

Due to class size, currently, we are not accepting any applications for transfer.  For additional information, please contact Ms. Melanie Brown (mbro15@lsuhsc.edu).
