LSU Orthopaedic's Wellness Program
LSU Orthopaedics is committed to fostering a culture of wellness among our faculty and residents to reduce burnout and enhance overall well-being.
Research shows that diminished wellness impacts not only physicians’ personal and
professional lives, but also the quality of patient care. According to a study published
in JBJS Open Access, orthopedic surgeons experience burnout rates ranging from 40%
to 60%. These levels of burnout are associated with higher rates of medical errors,
decreased patient satisfaction, and an increased risk of mental health conditions
such as anxiety, depression, and substance misuse.
To address these challenges, Drs. Michelle Moore and Amit Bhandutia are leading efforts
to integrate wellness core values throughout the Department of Orthopaedics. These
core values include:

Intellectual Wellness
is the pursuit of knowledge and brain health through engaging in thought-provoking mental activities.
