LSU Orthopaedics Residents Have a New Home in Lafayette

The newly renovated $35 million facility in Lafayette brings internal medicine, orthopaedics, sports medicine, and physical therapy together under one roof, creating a state-of-the-art, high-volume environment with nearly 100 patient care rooms. LSU Orthopaedics residents will gain invaluable hands-on experience here, advancing their skills in sports medicine and beyond while learning side-by-side with fellows and faculty.
For LSU Health residents, the center offers expanded exam and treatment space, simulation rooms, and a state-of-the-art physical therapy gym designed with education in mind. With more capacity and more patients, residents gain broader exposure to real-world cases while working closely with a multidisciplinary care team. This is especially valuable for LSU Orthopaedics, where trainees can now follow patients across the full continuum of care—from initial injury and diagnosis to surgery, rehab, and long-term follow-up.

The facility features:
-
75 exam rooms, 15 treatment rooms and 4 point-of-care testing rooms
-
Multiple simulation rooms for medical residents
-
A state-of-the-art physical therapy gym
-
2 x-ray rooms and 4 blood draw rooms
-
Support and administrative spaces, plus ~40,000 sq. ft. of additional space for future growth

The move also strengthens the overall training ecosystem in Lafayette. By shifting and expanding outpatient services at Bertrand, space opens up at Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics for additional specialty care and complex inpatient teaching. Together, these two sites give LSU Health residents and LSU Orthopaedics faculty a powerful combination: a high-volume outpatient home base and a robust hospital environment. For patients in Acadiana, that means greater access to care; for LSU Orthopaedics, it means a stronger platform to train the next generation of orthopaedic specialists.
