About the Committee

The Psychiatry Student Research Committee at LSUHSC is designed to foster connections between medical students and residents to research opportunities in the field of psychiatry.

The committee is made up of faculty, staff, residents, and student leaders who are selected annually. These student leaders hold key roles: the Chair-Elect (an incoming second-year student), the Chair (a second or third-year student), and the Senior Adviser to the Chair (a fourth-year student). The leadership structure within the committee is designed to provide mentorship and continuity.

The committee serves as a resource for medical students interested in pursuing research, offering educational workshops throughout the year on topics such as how to initiate research projects, navigate IRB applications, collect and analyze data, and prepare research papers and posters for conferences. In addition, the committee provides access to expert support including a statistician and a writer who assists students in their publications. Ultimately, the Psychiatry Student Research Committee aims to enhance research engagement and productivity among LSUHSC medical students, providing them with the tools, resources, and mentorship needed to succeed in psychiatric research. Additionally, the Resident Advisor assists psychiatry residents in completing research projects.
