Where to Give
Though large, one-time donations often make headlines, most philanthropic support comes from many individuals contributing smaller amounts regularly. Alumni and friends can support the LSU Medical Alumni Association through via dues, one-time gifts or recurring gifts or through membership in the school’s prestigious Committee of 100 – Champions of Excellence. The LSU Medical Association is a 501c3, therefore donations are tax deductible. Donations made to the LSU Medical Alumni Association also qualify for TAF points.
Association Dues
Dues support the Alumni Association's efforts to keep our alumni connected and engaged, such as:
- Enhancing communication through print and online channels with alumni, students and other key stakeholders
- Organizing medical alumni reunions
- Hosting the annual scientific session for alumni
These efforts are vital in enabling us to solicit additional contributions that allow us to carry out our mission to provide the LSU School of Medicine with funding for educational, charitable, and scientific support.
Additional Gifts
Additional contributions are gifts above and beyond dues that allow the Alumni Association to make an impact on the LSU School of Medicine. These contributions allow us to support important initiatives such as:
- Supporting charitable student-led programs such as Camp Tiger and Student-Run Community Clinics
- Promoting diversity through the school’s Summer Enrichment Program
- Improving facilities and technology for medical students
- Funding other strategic initiatives identified by school leadership
Committee of 100
The Committee of 100 - Champions of Excellence is a group of dedicated supporters who help fund important initiatives for the LSU School of Medicine. Founded in 1983 with the initial goal to raise enough money for endowed Professorships and Chairs.
Currently, the focus of the Committee of 100 has shifted to special projects to benefit the School of Medicine. Such projects are solely dependent upon alumni support. Committee of 100 members pledge a minimum of $10,000 to be paid over 10 years to support these important initiatives.
Special Funds
The LSU Medical Alumni Association manages two restricted funds - the Dean's Discretionary Fund and the Isidore Cohn Jr., MD Student Learning Center.
The LSU Health Foundation manages all other special funds, scholarships, professorships and chairs.
