Surgical Boot Camp

Annually, the Department of Surgery hosts a Surgical Resident Boot Camp for all incoming LSU and Ochsner surgery residents (General, Plastic & Vascular) along with other disciplines like Urology and Otorhinolaryngology. The boot camp presents residents with educational presentations by faculty as well as hands-on skills workshops with cadaver specimens. The various skills introduced include knot tying, laparoscopy, endoscopy, bowel anastomosis, trocar/ chest tube insertion, vascular suturing and more.

With the help of industry sponsors, residents are able to use state-of-the-art technology and machines to cycle through the various workshops during boot camp. If you are interested in participating in boot camp, please reach out to Jeanne Zar at jzar@lsuhsc.edu.

The boot camp also offers residents an interpersonal setting to meet with one another as they begin their respective residency programs. The program is happy to have hosted the boot camp since it's inception by John Morrison, MD, FACS in 2010.
