Family Medicine
All members of the PGY3 cohort of the LSU- Lafayette Family Medicine Residency Program successfully passed their boards. The program has maintained a 100% first-time board take and pass rate for nine years running thanks to the efforts of Academic Advisor Libby Going, Program Director Marilyn Marshall, and the FM LSU- Lafayette dedicated faculty.
Internal Medicine
Dr. Laura Hutchins and Dr. Chelsea Vaughn were announced as Chief Residents of the LSU Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program.
Elyse Cleveland, MD was announced as Chief Resident of the LSU Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program. Thomas Fincke, MD and Ryan Wolfe, MD were announced as Associate Chief Residents. Lauren Cooper, MD was announced as Assistant Chief Resident for Scholarly Activity.
The Residency Program was well represented at the Louisiana ACP Resident and Student Meeting, with case presentations from:
- Michael Bank - Mystery case: "A 42-year Latin American female with no known past medical or family history presented to the hospital with three days of chest pressure, shortness of breath, fever...."

Ophthalmology

Jonah Goldblatt, MD (1st year resident) and Charles Reeder, MD (2nd year resident) were both recognized for their excellent patient care. Dr. Goldblatt by University Medical Center New Orleans as a “Difference Maker” and Dr. Reeder by New Orleans Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Jonathan Williams, MD and Chris Lasecki, MD were selected as the Co-Chief Residents for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Pediatrics
A panel of LSU Pediatric residents recently presented their professional stories to the Pediatric Interest Group helping to inform career choices for first- and second-year medical students with an early interest in Pediatrics. Third year residents Eden Haile and Katie Procarione, second year residents Rachelle Davis and Brantlee McConaughey, and intern Corinna Victor represented their profession and peers in a positive way with Pediatric Interest Group advisor Dr. Brian Barkemeyer moderating the session. The Pediatrics Interest Group serves an important role in presenting information about a career in pediatrics to medical students and has an early influence on recruiting quality applicants into the program. The group's final meeting of the year was scheduled to be a panel discussion of recently matched fourth year students relating their experiences with residency application, interviews, and the match.
Pediatrics Program Director Dr. Chelsey Sandlin recently announced that Dr. Paige Prevot and Dr. Joey Sansone will serve as Chief Residents of the LSU Pediatric Residency Program for the 2023 - 2024 Academic Year. Drs. Prevot and Sansone were lauded for demonstrating strong clinical abilities, leadership skills, and a commitment to the success of the residency program.
Dr. Betty Lo announced the Medicine/Pediatrics chief residents for the same year will be Dr. Laura Hutchins and Dr. Chelsea Vaughn.
Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellow Dr. Callie Roth reviewed an article in the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics' (COMSEP) February Journal Club. You can read the review here.
Second-year Gastroenterology fellow Dr. Nicole Zeky's research proposal titled Impact of Food Insecurity on Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Outcomes will be funded by the LSUHSC Grant for Research on Healthcare Disparities Program. These grants are intended to support the education, analysis, improvement and innovation in reducing healthcare disparities within our teaching hospitals/academic centers and our communities.
Pediatric Hospital Medicine first year fellow, John Strand, has been accepted to present a PHM Story entitled “Vortex: The Spaces We Occupy” at the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Conference taking place in July at Disney World.
