The Pulse

From the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement

The LSU School of Medicine Office of Diversity & Community Engagement in a joint partnership with STEM NOLA recently launched its Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, & Medicine initiative (STEMM). STEMM will serve as a learning hub for K-12 students interested in healthcare careers around the state of Louisiana.

During the first session held on October 30, students were exposed to the School of Medicine's state-of-the-art simulation lab, where they participated virtually as Dr. Lofaso taught them about heart and lung sounds and vital signs using a robotic patient simulator. Several of medical school faculty, staff, and students were there to assist. All CDC COVID guidelines were adhered to as the students engaged in this learning opportunity. The students joined the live video presentation streaming from LSUHSC at their STEM NOLA east facility.
