Dr. Moise will be one of the Internal Medicine chief residents for the 2021-2022 academic
year.
Dr. Tran will be one of the Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine fellows here at LSU Health
New Orleans, starting July 1, 2021.
Ophthalmology
- Resident Dr. Ansuya Deosaran matched into a Cornea Fellowship at Washington University.
- Resident Dr. Maria Fernandez matched into a Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship at Bascom. Palmer Eye Institute/University of Miami, which is the #1 ranked Ophthalmology program in the country.
- Resident Dr. Chris Or matched into a Uveitis/Medical Retina at Byers Eye Institute/Stanford University.
- Resident Dr. Josh Pahng matched into a Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship at Ochsner Health.
- Resident Dr. Taylor Phelps matched into a Glaucoma Fellowship at Langone Eye Center/NYU, ranked 9th in the country.
- Resident Dr. Wade Tucker has a accepted a position with the Southern Eye Center in Hattiesburg, MS.

Resident Dr. Scott Barnett was recently awarded a 2020 POSNA Young Investigator Award
in the Lower Extremity Category for his presentation “Comparison of Long vs. Short
Leg Casts for Distal Third Tibial Shaft Fractures in Children.”
Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
Dr. Tyler Crosby (PGY 5 Resident) received the Resident Research Grant awarded by
the LSU School of Medicine.
Pathology
Third-year resident Dr. Nibras Fakhri won the best poster award in the infectious
disease section of United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) for her
poster “Diagnostic Accuracy of Histochemical Stains in Identification of Mucormycetes.”
Drs. Hina Khokhar and Walter Beversdorf were selected as a blue-ribbon finalist in
the American Society of Clinical Pathologist's resident category. Their poster was
titled “A Rare Case of Interstitial Pneumonia Diagnosed at Autopsy.”
Dr. Chris Girardo was awarded the Best Education Poster at Pathology Visions 2020.
The topic of his presentation was “COVID Challenges, Digital Solutions.”
The department recently welcomed new pathology residents:

- Dr. Michael Webber, William Carey University of Osteopathic Medicine, Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Pediatrics
Residents Katie Procarione, Alexandra Ranucci and Dr. Marcie Houser joined other Louisiana
pediatricians to individually advocate for the Strengthening the Vaccines for Children
Program Act of 2021 as part of the National AAP Advocacy Conference. The three met
with the offices of Representatives Garret Graves, Clay Higgins and Steve Scalise
and the office of Senator John Kennedy. They were also able to meet with Senator Bill
Cassidy himself and his staff virtually!
Pediatrics/Medicine:
Medicine/Pediatrics Program Director Dr. Betty Lo announced that Dr. Devyn Rohlfs
and Dr. Caitlin Sullivan will be the Medicine/Pediatrics Chief Residents for the 2021-2022
academic year.
Med/Peds PGY3 Resident Marie Bulathsinghala received the Cardiovascular Case Report
Award for her oral presentation: A Case of Covid-19 Associated Multisystem Inflammatory
Syndrome Resulting in New Onset Heart Failure in an Adult. M Bulathsinghala and R
Samson at the 2021 Southern Regional Meeting.
Pediatrics/Cardiology
2nd Year Cardiology Fellow Dr. Stefanie Cheang's abstract titled "A Novel DLL4 Intragenic
Deletion in an Infant with Adams-Oliver Syndrome and Persistent Truncus Arteriosus
with Crossed Pulmonary Arteries" has been accepted for poster presentation at Cardiology
2021 24th Annual Update on Pediatric and Congenital Cardiovascular Disease.
Congratulations to second year fellow, Dr. Stefanie Cheang, who received notice that
her abstract was accepted to the American College of Cardiology's 70th Annual Scientific
Session. She will present her abstract titled The Hidden Shunt: Intraoperative VSD
Repair Findings Lead to an Unusual Diagnosis of a Congenital Descending Aorta-Pulmonary
Vein Fistula at the conference in May. Authors include Stefanie Cheang, Ernest Siwik,
and Thomas Kimball.
