RESIDENTS/FELLOWS NEWS:

Family Medicine/Lake Charles:

David Dewitt, MDiv, DMin and Brian Harrell, M.D. presented Utilization of the Meyers-Briggs Personality Inventory to Build Emotional Intelligence and Improve Resident Self-Awareness at the national STFM Conference on Practice and Quality Improvement in Phoenix, AZ in December.

Memorial LSUHSC Family Medicine Residency Program offered a STOP the BLEED Training for all residents, faculty and support staff. Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and call-to-action. Stop the Bleed is intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

Neurosurgery:

Neurosurgery Resident Dr. Jessica Shields won the Dean Echols Award at the 2020 Annual Meeting of the Louisiana Neurosurgical Society. The Dean Echols Award was given to Dr. Shields for her research presentation, "Use of transcranial magnetic stimulation to track functional improvement following surgical decompression in patients with cervical myelopathy."

Pediatrics:

Congratulations to Drs. David Lake and Bradley Hyman. Dr. Betty Lo, director of the medicine/pediatrics residency program, recently announced that they will serve as the medicine/pediatrics chief residents for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The 2019 LSU pediatric residency graduates had a 100% pass rate on their pediatrics board exams, according to Program Director Program Dr. Chelsey Sandlin.

Congratulations to PGY-3 Resident Michelle Duplantier who was nominated and elected by LSUHSC-NO medical students for the Gold Humanism Honor Society's Students of the Semester- Fall 2019. Michelle was selected by the students in the resident category. The society commends her interactions with peers, patients, and community and applauds her for being a great member of the LSUHSC community. She embodies the GHHS pillars of respect, integrity, service, and empathy.

Kudos to the new Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine Fellowship lead by Dr. Amanda Messer which matched their first fellow, Dr. Caroline “Callie” Roth from Eastern Virginia Medical School/Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, VA.

The hematology/oncology and allergy/immunology programs will welcome some familiar faces. Hematology/Oncology Program Director Dr. Pinki Prasad matched Jordan Doss while A/I Program Director Dr. Ken Paris matched resident Jamie Yeager.
