Physician Well-Being

Healthcare professionals are potentially exposed to high levels of stress during their careers and are, therefore, susceptible to burnout. LSUHSC acknowledges this and prioritizes self-care. When we take care of ourselves, communication improves, better decisions are made, errors decrease, and attitudes rise. LSUHSC recognizes that taking care of oneself will, in turn, improve patient care, personal relationships, and the LSUHSC community.

The Campus Assistance Program is a free service that supports the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of trainees, students, faculty, staff, and immediate family members to promote the overall health and effectiveness of the LSUHSC community.

In 2019, the School of Medicine formulated the LSUHSC Wellness Krewe: Self-Care for Health Care. The goal of the Wellness Krewe is to promote a healthy learning and working environment, building resiliency, and personal well-being among faculty, staff, residents and students in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences Center.

The ACGME has abundant resources available through the AWARE platform for residents and fellows designed to promote well-being among residents, fellows, faculty members and others in the GME community.

Pediatric Department-specific events include Fifth Friday Fun and Wellness Week. In addition, there are Neonatology-specific wellness events throughout the year, including call-free Wednesdays, community service outings for fellows and attendings, yearly NICU Division parties (summer pool party, holiday party), and biannual fellow dinners (attendings cover call).

Friday Fun Days

Fellows’ Fifth Friday Fun Day: Building Bonds Beyond the Office

At our organization, we believe that a strong, cohesive team is the foundation of success. That’s why, every quarter, we host the Fellows’ Fifth Friday Fun Day—a day dedicated to team building, social interaction, and pure enjoyment. Our fellows eagerly anticipate these special Fridays, where they step away from their daily tasks and dive into exciting group activities. From the thrill of solving puzzles in escape rooms to the energetic matches of pickleball, these outings are designed to foster camaraderie and teamwork in a fun, relaxed environment.

These events are more than just a break from work; they are a vital part of our culture. We’ve witnessed firsthand how these activities help our fellows grow into a cohesive, engaged group. The laughter, shared experiences, and collaborative spirit cultivated during these outings translate into a more dynamic and supportive workplace.

We are committed to nurturing this vibrant culture and environment, knowing that it significantly enhances the well-being of our fellows. As we continue to invest in these team-building experiences, we look forward to seeing our fellows thrive both personally and professionally.
