Year at a Glance
Year 1*:
- 4 months of service at Children’s Hospital New Orleans (Level IV NICU)
- 3 months of service at Touro infirmary (Level III NICU with delivery service)
- 1 month of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Touro Infirmary and East Jefferson General Hospital
- 4 months of research
*The first-year schedule is designed to allow fellows time to study for the General Pediatrics Certifying Examination
Year 2:
- 3 months of service at Children’s Hospital New Orleans
- 3 months of service at Touro Infirmary
- 6 months of research
Year 3*:
- 2 months of service at Children’s Hospital New Orleans
- 2 months of service at Touro Infirmary
- 8 months of research
*Third-year fellows serve as acting attendings (aka pretending) during their time on service
Vacation is generally taken during research months
Fellows attend NICU Follow Up Clinic 1-2 times per month during their 3 years of fellowship
Call schedule:
- 75 calls / year (32 calls in house at Children's Hospital and 43 calls from home for Touro)
