The Microarray Core provides researchers with the expertise and instrumentation necessary for RNA transcript profiling using Affymetrix's high-density oligonucleotide arrays. The core is located on the fifth floor of the Clinical Sciences Research Building and includes dedicated rooms for Affymetrix instrumentation and sample processing, as well as office space allocated for computer analysis of data.

Available equipment includes the Agilent Bioanalyzer 2100 to assess RNA quality, in addition to an Affymetrix GeneArray scanner, two GeneChip fluidics stations, a GeneChip Hybridization

Oven 640, and a GeneChip bioinformatics system. This system includes a complete laboratory information management system (LIMS), which gives users direct access to their raw data, allowing for organization of data and management of projects, as well as the ability to use Affymetrix GCOS and GREX or other third party data analysis packages on their own computers to analyze and query gene expression data. GeneChip arrays are to be purchased by the researcher through Affymetrix.

Consultation with the core during the planning stages of an experiment is encouraged to promote an experimental design that would allow the best interpretation of the data.
