TRAUMA/ SURGICAL CRITICAL CARE
This is a one year, ACGME approved, Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care. The Critical Care portion of the Fellowship is centered at University Medical Center, the regional Level I Trauma Center and verified burn center serving the Gulf South. The 24-bed Trauma/Surgery ICU provides a broad experience in Critical Care of Trauma and General Surgery. ICU rotations also occur in the Neuro ICU and Burn unit. This experience is rounded out with two month-long electives available in Cardiothoracic ICU, Pediatric ICU, Medical ICU, Anesthesia, Interventional Radiology, and ultrasound. The fellowship also offers a strong experience in operative Trauma Surgery, which sees approximately 25% penetrating trauma, and complex emergency general surgery. ECMO experience is also available. The teaching faculty consists of ten Critical Care- boarded surgical intensivists from two academic institutions, with extensive backgrounds in research, leadership, and education. There are two fellowship positions a year available. Applicants completing or who have completed a General Surgery residency will only be considered. Military applicants will be considered for a two year position.
