Association of Women Surgeons

The Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) is a national organization dedicated to supporting women surgeons at all points in their career from medical school to retirement. The LSUHSC medical school chapter of AWS was founded in 2018 to introduce more female medical students to various surgical specialties. We will do so by hosting women attending and resident surgeon panels as well as other networking events to build a stronger relationship between current medical students and women surgeons at local hospitals. Additionally, our members will participate in outreach programs to expose younger female students to the surgical field. Members also have the opportunity to join the national organization.

Our interest group is open to all genders.
