The Association for Women in Science South Louisiana Chapter (AWIS-SL) is proud to sponsor the AWIS-SL/LSUHSC Outstanding Young Scientist Travel Award to promote the participation of female graduate students and postdoctoral researchers at national scientific conferences.
AWIS-SL is an organization of professional women in science, ranging from graduate students to professors, with a mission dedicated to the promotion of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) through scholarship, leadership, education, mentoring, advocacy, and community outreach. AWIS-SL is committed to helping women in STEM achieve their greatest potential at every stage of their career. Danielle Levitt, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Physiology, Comprehensive Alcohol-HIV/AIDS Research Center, was recently announced as the AWIS Outstanding Young Scientist Travel Award Winner. The award provides up to $500 to attend a scientific meeting. Dr. Levitt will attend the Gordon Research Seminar and Conference in Venture, CA on April 23-29, 2022. (Photo, right)

AWIS Holiday Gift Collection

The members of AWIS-SL collected gifts for the Salvation Army through the Christmas donor program. AWIS-SL sponsored two seniors through the Silver Bells program, a family through the Adopt-A-Family program and a girl through the Angel program. Members of AWIS generously donated to the program and delivered most Christmas wishes and some bonus Christmas surprises right in time for the holiday season. We greatly appreciate the support by the members of AWIS-SL who brought holiday cheer to the people around the city of New Orleans. (Photo, below)

The LSUHSC-NO Postbaccalaureate Scholars collected donations to provide Health Bags for the Catholic Charities for Christmas to 50 children and adults in the homeless community. The basic science departments of physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, and microbiology, immunology and parasitology participated in the event.
