Biography

A native of Bainbridge, Georgia, Dr. Maxwell received her medical education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA. She subsequently completed otolaryngology residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, Colorado, followed by Otology-Neurotology Fellowship at the House Ear Clinic affiliated with the University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Maxwell has published on cochlear implant techniques and positioning, vascular effects in acoustic neuroma surgery, vestibular trauma with blast injury, the impact of formal global health outreach education on trainees, and the utility of imaging in otosclerosis, among others. Her ongoing research focuses on innovative techniques for otologic education, improving disparities in hearing health care, and clinical outcomes research.

Dr. Maxwell sees patients with hearing loss and deafness (acquired and congenital loss including those considering cochlear implantation, otosclerosis, ossicular erosion, sudden hearing loss, autoimmune inner ear disease); chronic ear disorders (chronic otitis media and mastoiditis, cholesteatoma, tympanic membrane perforation, Eustachian tube disorders); tumors and disorders of the temporal bone and lateral skull base (acoustic neuromas/vestibular schwannomas, meningiomas, glomus tumors, rare tumors, cerebrospinal fluid leaks and encephaloceles, pulsatile and non-pulsatile tinnitus); facial nerve disorders (Bell's palsy, neuroma, traumatic injury); dizziness and other balance disorders (Meniere's disease, superior semicircular canal dehiscence, vertigo); and other otologic and neurotologic conditions.
