A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHIEF RESIDENTS
Here at LSU New Orleans, we offer a broad scope of training with exposure to a wide variety pathology at clinical sites both in New Orleans as well as neighboring cities across southern Louisiana. We are fortunate to work with many community and academic attendings across all subspecialties, providing exposure to a diverse array of diagnostic techniques and medical/surgical management of both routine and advanced ophthalmologic disease. Our program allows for experiences in both attending and resident clinics, providing a healthy balance between guidance and autonomy. This encourages development of your confidence and skill sets, honing independent decision making and critical thinking. At the end of training, our residents are well prepared to practice as comprehensive ophthalmologists and have great success matching to competitive fellowship positions across all subspecialties.
Living in New Orleans, one of the most unique cities in the entire US, is another bonus of our program. There are an abundance of world class restaurants to try, year round festivals to attend, and of course, the many parades of Mardi Gras. Whether attending the annual residency crawfish boil, New Orleans Pelicans/Saints games, or countless other New Orleans events, our program is fully immersed in the city and its culture, providing opportunities for a vibrant and one of a kind social experience to balance the rigors of training.
LSU New Orleans is an extraordinary place for ophthalmology training and as you enter application season, we hope you consider our program. We wish you the best of luck and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
