Research Interests

My interests are centered in the mechanisms of neuroprotection exerted by bioactive lipids derived from docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). We focus on age-related neurodegenerative and other pathologies related with dopamine neuronal systems, for instance, Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia, seeking to counteract the effects of dysregulated phospholipase A2 group VI. For this purpose, we utilize an acute and a chronic rat model of Parkinsonian disorders with bioactive lipids. Of special interest are the effects of lipid mediators targeting microglia and astrocytes and their transformation into pro-survival phenotypes.
