Born in New Orleans, Louisiana April 28, 1953, he attended LSU Medical School in New Orleans from 1975 to 1979 when he graduated.He completed his residency in General Surgery at LSU Medical School Department of Surgery: Charity Hospital of Louisiana, training from 1979 to 1983.He maintained a General Surgery Private Practice in Louisiana and Alabama from 1979 to 2007. His private practice included general, thoracic, gynecologic surgery as well as endoscopy with 20+ years experience in minimally invasive surgery.He became Associate Professor of Surgery at LSU Department of Surgery at Earl K Long Hospital in November 2007 and holds that position until the present. He is the site director for medical students’ surgery rotation at Earl K Long Hospital since 2009 and has been the head of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Earl K Long Hospital from 2009 to present. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 1986, served as a board member for the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons from 2008 through 2010 and currently reviews manuscripts for the Journal of Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery.
His main interest is in minimally invasive surgery which includes lectures and participating in teaching courses on minimally invasive surgery in the USA, China, Germany, Italy, Australia, Cambodia and Vietnam. He has published numerous articles and book chapters on the subject of minimally invasive surgery. He also is interested in medical student and surgical resident education and training through simulation.
