Professor and Director, LSUHSC-New Orleans Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) in Biomedical Sciences
Scholars in the third cohort of LSUHSC-NO Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) in the Biomedical Sciences began their one-year long program on July 1, 2020. The Scholars enter the PREP, funded by the National Institutes of Health, after completion of a bachelor's degree in the biomedical sciences. The PREP provides recent biomedical science post baccalaureates with hands-on exposure to medical research, enrollment in graduate courses, and GRE and skills workshops to develop scholarly potential to prepare for graduate school admissions, successful completion of the doctorate, and future careers in biomedical research.
Sheldon Davis graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry & molecular biology and will conduct an independent research project with mentors Drs. Angela Amedee in Microbiology, Immunology, Parasitology and Tekeda Ferguson in Epidemiology. Zari McCullers graduated from Towson University with a degree in cell and molecular biology and will train in the laboratory of Dr. Tiffany Wills in Cell Biology and Anatomy. Roshaun Mitchell‐Cleveland graduated from Southern University of New Orleans with a degree in biology/mathematics and will work with her mentor, Dr. Scott Edwards in Physiology. Allison Norman graduated from Alcorn State University with a degree in biochemistry and will train with Dr. Martin Ronis in Pharmacology. Diego Torres is a recent graduate of Texas State University earning a degree in biology/biochemistry & Spanish and will train with his mentor, Dr. Liz Simon, in Physiology.
The Scholars will be attending skills development and GRE preparation workshops, enroll in graduate courses in the fall and spring semesters, and will be applying to graduate programs across the United States by the end of the year. The yearlong program ends on June 30, 2021. The PREP is executed by Drs. Lisa M. Harrison-Bernard, Director; Allison C.
