Danny R. Barnhill, M.D. is Chief of the Section of Gynecologic Oncology at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and Medical Advisor for the Louisiana Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. He joined the faculty at LSUHSC-New Orleans in January 2005.
Dr. Barnhill grew up in central Georgia and attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in Biology. He received an MD degree from the Medical College of Georgia, after which he completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Barnhill finished fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He then completed a total of 20 years of service with the U.S. Army. He was the Chief of the Gynecologic Oncology Service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for the last 5 years of his Army career. After leaving the military, Dr. Barnhill undertook a very busy private practice in Gynecologic Oncology in Shreveport, Louisiana for several years before joining the faculty at LSUHSC-New Orleans.
Dr. Barnhill’s career has been marked by active clinical practice, a passion for teaching, and a strong interest in clinical research. He has received a number of teaching awards, and he has 60 medical publications to date. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
