Salary & Benefits 2023-2024
The annual salary for full-time interns is currently $30,000. Low cost health and/or dental insurance is also available for an additional cost by psychology interns. Optional 24-hour parking at the garages located on the LSUHSC Medical School campus is available to interns at a reduced rate of approximately $18 per month. A full-time administrative assistant is dedicated to the psychology internship program and can provide administrative support to interns as well.
Malpractice Coverage
The State of Louisiana provides professional liability coverage to intern when acting within the scope of their training.
Holidays
Holiday schedule depends on the rotation and generally follow State of Louisiana official holidays. Typically, LSUHSC holidays include: Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Years', Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Mardi Gras Day, and Good Friday. The typical state holidays for the Health Sciences Center generally total approximately 10 total days.
Leave
Annual Leave
Psychology interns may take twelve working days of annual leave during the training
year. Interns are not permitted to take all five working days of annual leave during
the last week of the training year. Annual leave requests must be submitted in writing
and approved in advance by the intern's primary supervisor.
Sick Leave
Five days per year are allowed for sick leave which covers yourself as well as illness
of an immediate family member when you need to provide caretaking.
Parental Leave
In order to receive paid parental leave, a psychology intern must utilize available
vacation leave and sick leave. Parental leave for up to six (6) weeks may be granted
as appropriate and as required by applicable law. The Psychology intern will make
arrangements to make up missed training with the Training Director, which will likely
extend (without pay) beyond the usual June 30th end date
Educational Leave
You may take up to two days of educational leave for educational activities related to your dissertation, graduation, postdoc interviews, and conference related activities.
